National Treasure

On Memorial Day, I went to view the most beautiful piece of paper in America: the Declaration of Independence. The National Archives rotunda in which it is housed is an extremely dark room due to the sensitivty of the documents. The guide monitoring the flow of tourists into the room advised those of us at the front of the queue of some basic information and requests for our self-guided tour. He asked, due to the sensitivity of the documents, that we avoid using flash photography in the room. A small girl standing ahead of me with her family quietly asked her father, "Is that because of the map on the back of it?"
